Soft pastel and charcoal are the techniques I work with.
They are both very original, elemental techniques.
In pastel you use almost pure colour pigments in form of chalk pieces, with only a few additives as binders.
In charcoal you use carbonized branches of trees, mostly willow, or pressed charcoal powder in form of
sticks.
With pastel or charcoal pencils it is possible to elaborate fine details.
I need a direct contact to my colours. When I'm drawing, I always have "dirty" fingers. By bluring the pigments I can establish the typical softness in my drawings.
On the following pages I'll show you my working materials pastel and charcoal, and
explain how the drawings are created.
